Personal information is de-identified or destroyed securely when no longer required by us. Cunningham Lindsey handles a large amount of information including details about individuals as part of its claims handling activities. Our full range of activities has been notified under the Data Protection Act 1998 (the Act) and can be viewed on the Information Commissioners website.
We are part of a global business and the information we hold may be transferred overseas or shared with other organisations worldwide in order to perform our work. However, we only share information with organisations that have comparable levels of protection, security and confidentiality.
To combat financial crime and money laundering, we are obliged to make enquires when dealing with claims. As part of the validation process we may check with other parties including credit reference agencies and data providers. We also share claim data within the insurance market, but only through recognised schemes designed to combat financial crime. Details may also be passed to parties assisting with a claim, but any personal data will be treated as confidential and will not be used for other purposes.
Under the Act, individuals are entitled to see their personal data by making a “subject access request” in writing (email is also acceptable). The subject access request should be addressed to the person you have been dealing with in our organisation as this will speed up the identification process. In certain circumstances your request may have to be redirected to an organisation we are acting for, in which case we will advise you their contact details.
Please note that we only provide personal data as defined in the Act and restrictions might apply depending on the situation with your claim and/or your relationship with our organisation.
