Cunningham Lindsey respond to Rio de Janeiro Floods

As you may have seen in the international media, a state of emergency has been declared after severe rainfall fell in Rio de Janeiro at the beginning of the week.

In less than 24 hours 28.8cms (9 inches) of rain fell in the City, the worse for 30 years and three times more than that was predicted for the whole of April.

The heavy rainfall has triggered landslides and it is being reported that at least 95 people have been killed as a result. The rising waters have turned roads into rivers paralysing the transport infrastructure. The airport has been closed, and the bridge between Rio de Janeiro and Niterói and the surrounding highways are also closed.

Many parts of the City are without telephone connection or electricity.

Industry around the affected area is quite heavy and concentrated and we anticipate some losses through both flooding and loss of business and revenue.
