Cunningham Lindsey prepare for Hurricane Irene

23 Aug 11

Tropical Storm Irene has turned into a Category 2 hurricane (the first of the 2011 Atlantic hurricane season) late yesterday.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center's forecast indicated that Irene may become a major Category 3 storm, with winds over 111 mph (178 kph), before hitting the southeast U.S. coast by the weekend.

The storm's core was expected to pass north of the Dominican Republic and Haiti this morning and the south-eastern Bahamas later today. Hurricane-force winds extended outward from the core to 50 miles (85 km) and tropical storm-force winds extended out up to 205 miles (335 km).

Cunningham Lindsey has a fully licensed operation within the Bahamas and our catastrophe response adjusters based in Nassau are preparing to deal with any losses that may occur there or in the surrounding territories following the passage of Irene.

Our catastrophe plans for the region have been put into action and further adjusting and surveying staff are preparing to be deployed to the Bahamas as required.
