Cunningham Lindsey respond to New Zealand earthquake

4 Sep 10

In the early hours of Saturday 4th September, an earthquake registering 7.1 on the Richter scale occurred near Christchurch, New Zealand's third largest city with a population of around 400,000 people. Thankfully there has been no reported loss of life.

There is significant damage to commercial buildings in the central business district and widespread damage to residential houses throughout the city.

We have established an operations centre in Christchurch specifically to address the influx of earthquake claims. We have 40 staff operating from this centre and from our Christchurch office. We will continue to increase our local resources as claims are received.

There is a very real prospect that we will be seeking assistance from our Cunningham Lindsey colleagues overseas.

In the next 48 hours a clearer picture will emerge of the scale of the disaster, and likely claim numbers.

If you require any further information please do not hesitate to contact the writer or Darryl Cowan the leader of our Major and Complex Loss Division.

If you have any claims that you wish to appoint us to please email them to or to Darryl Cowan -
