MISSISSAUGA, ON -  Global independent adjusting firm, Cunningham Lindsey, has deployed 10 of its Canadian adjusters to assist with catastrophe response efforts in Australia announced President and Chief Executive Officer Rob Seal.
In March, severe storm activity resulted in massive flooding in and around Perth, Australia. According to the Insurance Council of Australia as at April 14 over 120,500 property and motor vehicle claims were reported, with an estimated insurable cost of $889 million, making it one of Western Australia's most costly natural disasters.
"One of the greatest advantages of being a global organization is the ability to assist one another in times of catastrophe," said Seal. "The recent situation in Australia is certainly one of those opportunities."
The Canadians are also joined by adjusters from Cunningham Lindsey's New Zealand operations. Together they are working under the direction of West Australian Regional Leader, Rosie Pratarelli.
Explains Pratarelli the call for assistance grew out of some creative problem solving. "When one of our clients received over 40,000 claims it was obvious to all parties that the standard solution of dividing between a panel of adjusters would not be appropriate. We needed a different, customized solution. So our catastrophe team came up with a strategy to best suit our clients needs: Enter the Canadian and New Zealand adjusters!"
The Canadian adjusters have been in Australia for over a week now and despite the long workdays and overwhelming caseloads, they agree their experience has been positive. "The claimants here are very friendly and accommodating and certainly appreciate our efforts," said Dennis Ferris, Ottawa adjuster deployed to Australia. "They are most impressed when we tell them we are from Canada and equally impressed with their insurer for going to such lengths and distance to seek assistance"
The first wave of adjusters is expected to return home in a few weeks: Each had agreed to stay for at least one-month service.
"This has been extremely successful and our Canadian colleagues have certainly made an impression with their energy and enthusiasm," concludes Pratarelli. "Indeed the calibre of adjusters is fantastic."
